Airflow dental cleaning in Amsterdam: effective cleaning, visible results

Many people look for an airflow dentist or an effective way to have their teeth professionally cleaned. At De Nieuwe Mondhygiënist in Amsterdam we work with the latest Airflow technology from EMS. In addition to hand instruments, we use a combination of air, warm water and a special erythritol powder that effectively removes stain, plaque and discoloration.

We are a GBT Certified Practice and treat according to the Guided Biofilm Therapy protocol. Scientifically backed and tailored to your mouth.

What is an Airflow dental treatment?

In an Airflow treatment, the EMS Airflow Prophylaxis Master sprays a fine mixture of air, warm water and erythritol powder onto your teeth and gums. The powder is a natural substance that is significantly less abrasive than the sodium bicarbonate powder used in standard blasting methods.

Plaque, stain and superficial discolorations are effectively removed, even in areas that are hard to reach with a standard toothbrush or interdental brush.

Airflow or salt blasting: what is the difference?

In everyday terms, Airflow is also referred to as salt blasting or sandblasting. The principle is similar, but the difference lies in the powder. We use erythritol powder (EMS Plus Powder), which is a better choice for several reasons:

  • less abrasive on tooth enamel

  • safer for sensitive gums and soft tissues

  • also effective along the gumline and in shallow pockets

How the Airflow treatment works at our practice

We always integrate Airflow into the Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) protocol, the gold standard in preventive oral care. In this protocol, biofilm (dental plaque) is first made visible with a dye, after which it is systematically removed. After that, tartar is addressed directly.

After the Airflow step, we use the Piezon No Pain from EMS to remove tartar. This device automatically adjusts vibrations based on the amount of tartar present, making it much more comfortable than traditional equipment.

For over 10 years, we have been offering this approach at our practice on the Aalsmeerweg in Amsterdam.

Who is the Airflow treatment suitable for?

The treatment is suitable for almost everyone, including people with sensitive teeth or gums. The gentle erythritol powder and warm water make it much more comfortable than traditional cleaning. Especially if you haven't been to a dental hygienist in a while, an Airflow treatment is a great way to make a fresh start.

An Airflow treatment is suitable if you:

  • have visible staining or discoloration from coffee, tea, or smoking

  • have not been to a dental hygienist for quite some time

  • have braces, implants or crowns that require extra attention

  • have sensitive teeth and find standard blasting methods unpleasant
